The Java Applet below demonstrates a procedurally generated night sky with animation:

500 stars twinkle, with occasional meteorites.

The api for Starfield, at this point, allows one to specify the rectangular dimensions and location of the Starfield, and the number of stars to be found in this area. One can optionally use a seed value to ensure the same sky graphic gets generated with each call. The applet below demonstrates a size of 200 by 500 pixels, drawn at location (200, 200) with 200 stars, and a seed of 0.
